I'm grateful to have the day to visit with Mom.

She is in good spirits even though uncomfortable with pain.  I'm so proud of her, she stopped taking the heavy duty pain killers and is getting by with Tylenol.  She is also doing all the PT exercises and slowly gaining movement back in her arm.  Everyday there is improvement.  I'm so grateful that she gets stronger every day!

I'm also grateful that an aide is helping my Mom.  Today I met Michelle, a lovely young woman who will come for 3 hours on Mon/Wed/Fri to assist my Mom with things around the apartment.  This helps my sister and I immensely too.  Welcome Michelle, and thank you for helping our Mom.

MomsArm

I'm grateful that Mom's incision is clean and infection free.

Yes, very Frankenstein looking... but knowing that her arm is now healing every moment forward, we don't care what it looks like.

SundayDinner

Mom is in good spirits.  I'm very grateful I was able to cook her a Sunday dinner that we both enjoyed...  chicken cutlet with onions, mashed sweet potatoes, green beans... yum!

TrudyHaircut

I'm also grateful that I was able to get my hair cut/styled this morning before heading to Queens to visit with Mom.  Thank you Judi for the new do. :)

StepIntoClouds

I'm grateful for being able to see the world as it isn't.

It is always a thrill when you get a shot in the "real world" that doesn't look real...  Reflections are a window to another world.  I was walking Koda this morning and saw this.  It looks like one could step off the curb and soar in the clouds.... no photoshop needed.

SunflowerSeedPack

I'm grateful that Mom is home and sleeping comfortably.

Everyday she feels better and the pain lessens in her arm.

I stand in front of the K-Mart at Penn awaiting the track announcement for the Long Beach train... today I looked inside and there was a huge display of seed packets... SPRING!!!  March 20th... 51 days from today... what a nice thought!  Mom loves sunflowers.

BurpeeSeeds

Seeing all those seed packets and pictures of bright colored flowers gave me pangs of missing the gardens I planted and tended to in 2 previous homes... places that I had lived in what seems another life within this life.  Even in the winter I enjoyed my garden...  the branches awaiting their time to bud again... the open spaces where I knew what perrenials were going to pop up...  thinking about going to Atlantic Nursery in Freeport to pick out the annuals for the season...  I'm grateful that I planted those gardens...

I'm grateful that today was Mom's first day of her arm starting the healing process.

She is staying another night in the hospital and is scheduled to go home tomorrow :D

Just spoke with Mom... she told me that this afternoon she was dozing and heard loud drumming in her dream... it woke her up and she opened her eyes and saw a dragon at her room door!... now, you have to remember, Mom is on pain meds, so she thinks she is hallucinating... but then realizes that there is a real dragon at her room door!... a Chinese New Year's Dragon!... dancing and going room to room and through the halls on her floor...  a lucky and auspicious first day of healing for Mom!

I hope she has a peaceful night of healing sleep.

Thank you to all the staff at New York Hospital Queens for taking care of our Mom.  Special thanks to the physical therapists who helped her today and pushed her to do the all the arm exercises even though it hurt a lot.

ChineseNewYear2012

I'm grateful that Mom's pre-surgical testing at the hospital went well today and she is all set for Wednesday's surgery.

We had a nice day together even though much of it was at the hospital.  Even though she is in much pain, she is in good spirits.

Happy Chinese New Year!  It's the Year Of The Dragon.

After we got home from the hospital, we ordered Chinese Take-Out to celebrate :D
